When the Marching Band season finishes, the
hard work by Bixby's band members doesn’t stop. The Bixby High School Concert Bands continue to practice and prepare for community
concerts and
statewide competitions. Concert Band is a credit class held during the first period of the 2nd and 3rd Trimesters. Based upon individual ability and the needs of the bands, students are placed in either the
Concert Band or Wind Ensemble. Many students also choose to participate in
smaller groups such as
Woodwind Choir, Brass Choir or Percussion Ensemble. The Concert Bands present three yearly concerts, including a
Holiday Concert in conjunction with the High School Vocal Music Department. A recent and very popular tradition is the
Annual Outdoor Spring Concert held in May at Bixby’s beautiful
Washington Irving Park Amphitheater. To present an additional
challenge and to ensure the bands are meeting the
high standard expected by the Bixby staff, the Concert Bands participate in several District and State
competitions sponsored by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA). Many students also participate in
Solos and Ensembles Competitions in the Winter and Spring months, with several Bixby students being selected each year for
All-State honors.
